IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - AGREE /DISAGREE ESSAY - SANIA BEGUM

Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. Do you agree or disagree? 


Many processed food and drink are packed with sugar and this lead to many health issues like diabetes, obesity etc,. I completely agree withy the view  that to reduce sugar consumption, sugar or glucose packed products should be sold at a higher price. 

Firstly, many people over-consume sugary products as they are cheaper in price. For instance, in United States, many of the fast food restaurants, offer free refill in sodas. As a result, people will tend to have two or more sodas at a meal. If these restaurants implement a 20% tax on this drinks and stop supplying free refill, then many people probably wouldn’t order it at all. A regulation like this can help preventing obesity and diabetes which is major issue among low income people since many of them are high consumers of cheap sugary sweetened foods and beverages. 

Lastly, in addition, making high sugar output more expensive can promote healthier eating choices. This is because, if the charges of the products peak to a point at which individuals are unable to afford them on a regular basis, they simultaneously turn to foods which are well and more affordable. For instance, if a can of strawberry- flavoured juice costs 3 times the price of a box fresh strawberries, why not choose the cheap fresh fruits?. Although , fresh fruits also contain sugar, natural sugar is more healthier than the added sugar and preservatives.

 In conclusion, sugar packed products should be made more costly to reduce lactose intake. For one thing, the over-consumption of this products is partly due to its low rate. For another, increasing their selling value could encourage people to choose healthier diet and leads to a fit lifestyle.

Have you ever been to any island? Yes, I have! Actually, I lived on an island for 3 months back in 2016. My mother was offered to work at a resort for 2 years, so I joined them there for 3 months.  Isl and life was quite an interesting experience! Are there any islands in your country? Yes, there are. There is one famous island called X, famed for its  crystal clear  water and white sands. I’ve heard the pagodas are very interesting to visit there, as well.
