IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - DISCUSSION ESSAY - SANJANA REDDY KOTHA

Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

These days, many of them believe that allowing children to do as per their own wish and will in every walk of their lives makes them selfish, while others argue that, it is essential for pupils to make decisions on matter that affect them. I am going to share both the views in my write up and also give my opinion on this.

On the one hand, Children, who are allowed to take decisions on their own in their basic needs, think about themselves only, there is no second thought in their minds. In this case, they lack moral values and humanity is simply vanished. When freedom is given in choosing their own options from a very small age, how will they know what is correct and what is wrong? For instance, a kid who is allowed to choose the food he/she wants to eat, obviously will go with junk, as these days junk food is the most attractive aspect which is very harmful. If there is involvement of a guardian here which  will make them  to eat hygienic and healthy food prepared at home, as children go with what they want ignoring what is correct!

On the other hand, people say that children should be allowed to take decisions which affect them, which is important. It is important for children to take part in few aspects like, they should be clear about their career,  their future academic plans and other important things. Learning is something in which the students interest play a major role. Instead of going with the elders choice, the young minds can choose the stream in which they are  interested in and which is useful for them! Children must face ups and downs in their lives, and  this makes them learn from the lessons taught by the situation.

To conclude, I think children shouldn't get freedom from their parents to choose every basic need. They should be given liberty to choose the things which really affect them like studies as mentioned. Sometimes, they should be allowed to choose what they want, sacrificing all the times  leads to some bad circumstances for sensitive kids. And parents should make aware of the curriculum they must follow and what is accurate for them.
