IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - AGREE/DISAGREE - SANJANA REDDY KOTHA
Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Knowing the past is useless since we are living in the present. I partially agree to the former point, as we should know all the aspects that occurred in the past which helps to take good decisions in the present and there are few things which we need not know as they are not helpful in any field. I am going to discuss both the sides of the coin in my writeup.
To commence with, the uses of knowing about the past, one of the major perspective of knowing what happened years ago is that, we have to know how the world has evolved, it will let us know the differences in the generations that has been occurring, what cultures and traditions were followed by our elders and are we following the same? It will give us information which is useful for us in following legitimate life. It is advantageous for pupils in the stream of HEC in their secondary schooling. Solicitors, museum activists and other field people can secure high positions in their profession with the help of knowledge by touching history.
On the other hand, these days, history is embedded in schools from 6th standard onwards. In this case, history is not very useful, children are going to do nothing after knowing about the past. The rulers of the past, their date of births, their family, how their reign was, all these aspects are simply useless for students.
To conclude, knowing about applicable history is important rather than getting awareness regarding unusable things as mentioned. I think, children must be taught how the attitudes of people are varying, what are the good practices in the past than teaching about the bygone rulers. But on the whole, it is essential to know about the flashback since we belong to chain of the era.
