IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - ADVANTAGE & DISADVANTAGE ESSAY - RUTWIK REDDY ANUGU

Some people think that it should be compulsory for people to retake their driving test every five years. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this?

Nowadays, there is an increase in automobiles on the roads, which aligns with the numerous road accidents. Many argue that instead of taking a single driving test in their life, everyone must undergo the test periodically. What are the positives  and demerits of retaking the driving test? This essay discusses both the positive and negative sides of the repeated driving test in the subsequent passages.

On the one hand, the main advantage of the repeated driving test is, we can cut down on many road accidents by educating the motorists about new rules enforced every year. In other words, a person who periodically takes a driving test will be well aware of traffic rules, so there won't be any chance of disobeying regulations. Ultimately, people don't commit any mistakes while driving, which decreases the chances of frequent accidents. Another merit is people who bribe/cheat the test can be caught atleast once in a series of tests.

On the other hand, there are many cons to this repeated driving test. One of the main demerits is the wastage of precious time, money, and efforts of the people and the government. In other words, to maintain the transparency and accurate results of a driver for every driving test, government spends good amount of money and time which would go in vain. Because, the results of youngsters may not vary a lot over a while as they won’t become old in a short span, infact they will be much fitter to drive in that age.

To conclude, while there are positives of conducting repeated driving test, too much of time, money and effort would be wasted. So, by maintaining the transparent way of testing the driving skills and retake of driving test when a person reaches his/her older age would benefit both the government and people.
