As well as making money, businesses also social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree ?

Businesses these days are so much into money making that they forget the responsibilities that come along with the revenues they make. Businesses do not completely realize that the final segment on the value chain of their business are the consumers who are the citizens and common people of the society. I completely agree that the businesses that are profitable have a role and an immense responsibility towards contributing to the society in ways that would provide some value to the citizens of the society.

 Firstly, the citizens of the society are the ultimate and final consumers of the products the businesses or organizations produce. For example, for an aircraft engine manufacturing company, the chain of consumer ship flows through the aircraft operator and then the consumers who fly from one destination to the next. In this case, without the passengers, in other words, the people who want to travel provide revenue to such businesses indirectly through the aircraft operators.

 Lastly, this indirect consumership brings a responsibility that the companies provide and contribute toward the society. In addition, these businesses and organizations, are the receivers of various incentives that the governments provide to the businesses to make trade more accessible within certain regions or attract companies to set their base in a certain location. In this case, the businesses which use the incentives which come from the government, are paid indirectly by the citizens of the society and furthermore, use the natural resources of that particular region such as water from the rivers, wood from deforesting trees while sometimes also end up polluting and depleting these resources. This demands that the companies give back to the society through various ways which would help these people of the society. The way corporates do this is through programs called as corporate social responsibilities. 

I conclude by pointing out that the companies not only give back to the society merely because there are mandates by the governments but by clearly understanding the “whys and whats” of the roles and responsibilities that they have to in a society and not just merely because there are mandates set by the governments.

Have you ever been to any island? Yes, I have! Actually, I lived on an island for 3 months back in 2016. My mother was offered to work at a resort for 2 years, so I joined them there for 3 months.  Isl and life was quite an interesting experience! Are there any islands in your country? Yes, there are. There is one famous island called X, famed for its  crystal clear  water and white sands. I’ve heard the pagodas are very interesting to visit there, as well.
