IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - DISCUSS BOTH VIEWS - SURAJ ROSHAN

In many countries, a small number of people earn extremely high salaries. Some people believe that this is good for the country , but others think that governments should not allow salaries above a certain level. Discuss both these views and give your opinion .

Salaries are a representation of the demand a particular skillset a person is capable of putting onto the table and help the employers by taking up assignments that sometimes require experience and practice to carry them out effectively and efficiently. This higher demand in certain skillsets with lower supply while being driven by the laws of economics, result for a minute fraction of people having higher salaries. Some people believe that the higher salaries is good for the country while there are also people who think that the governments should cap the salaries at a certain level, can both of them be justified?

On the one hand, higher salaries show that a person has a skillset in a certain niche in the market with only few people being able to deliver what this roles demand. For instance, leadership positions, which are usually highly paid roles, could sound easy fo r a role, but something as such demands sheer determination with a lot of people being involved such as employees who look up to the people in the higher executive positions for their vision to drive them and motivate them to work toward a certain cause, while the role also involves the stakeholders of the company sometimes with them having expectations from the top executives of a company to drive the growth of the company and so with such high expectations, the delivery of the value they provide to the company or organization becomes a lot more valuable and so the higher salaries could be because of the lower supply of people who could deliver results with such high stakes involved. Higher salaries also drive people to work harder and act as a motivator for the employees that they hold a considerate position in the company, which satisfies the human urge and tendency to have a purpose, however, these salaries also serve a purpose to the country, with higher salaries meaning higher tax collection which the economy could benefit from.

On the other hand, capping the salaries could act as demotivator for various reasons from people not wanting to work in a specific country, to no wanting to take up more daunting assignments and tasks that involve higher risks. Governments not allowing salaries above a certain level could also mean that there would not be much of difference in between the poor and rich in the country and making almost all of the amenities in a country more accessible to the entire population and this could also bring in more harmony within the people with fewer differences in the lifestyles people would then have.

In my opinion, the pluses of having higher salaries outweigh the pluses capping the salaries would have and hence I think its immensely justified that people who possess certain specialized skillsets should be allowed to have salaries with the kind of role they play within an organization. Both parties, such as the government and the individuals who are paid higher salaries would have a win-win situation, with governments able to tax higher amounts and individuals being fulfilled with their salaries for the kind of value they bring to a company or an organization.
