IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - DISCUSS BOTH VIEWS - HARSHITH REDDY

Some people beleive that its best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

It is widely believed by a majority of individuals that accepting a bad situation and moving on is the optimal solution, while others argue that there is no harm in trying to work for the betterment of it. Surely, one cannot avert the mishappenings in his/her life, but is doing nothing the best way of dealing with things ? In the forthcoming paragraphs, I shall discuss both the views and assert my opinion.

To begin with, there are many instances where people perceive that they cannot drastically change their situation and acceptance of such facts will leave them more contented with their lives. According to these people, good or bad situtions are merely 'Act of god' or 'play of fate'. They believe that they have nothing to do when they are destined for something else. This paradigm of thought (can be blamed on)/(might be a result of) their socio-economic status or on their nurturing. For a person living in a country ravaged by a famine, it is extremely difficut for them to improve their situation. Instead they can accept the hard reality and work on the survival of their family.

On the other hand, few would dispute one should overcome hard ships with continued effort and sheer determination. These people opine that other side of a crisis is oppurtunity and one should be optimistic in dealing with things. Given the fact that they cannot worsen the situation, they surely can mitigate the damages to some extent. For example, World War 2 left countries like Japan, Germany and South Korea depleted of workers, a deep national debt due to reparations and infrastructure reduced to rubble. By not accepting their situation they were able to become leaders in technology through notable companies like Toyota, Volkswagen and Sony. The efficacy of the individuals who had to work hard to improve their lives is reflected in the overall progress of the country.

In conclusion, By having a more positive attitude it is also more likely that your efforts to make a better life will be rewarded, while a more succumbing attitude is likely to reduce your chances to make changes in life. In my opinion one should keenly assess their position and follow a pragmatic approach.
