IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - ADV/ DISADVANTAGE - HARSHITH REDDY

Nowadays online education has become popular as more institutes and companies are offering courses online. However, many people prefer the traditional, classroom training or study. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both methods.

The internet has changed the way we learn. Nowadays, we can learn anything and everything from the comfort of our home using a computer or smartphone. The main advantage of this development is that it allows students to learn at a time and place convenient to them. However, there is a significant set of students who find online classes less effective than regular classes.

Online classes has been a boon to many students during these unprecedented times where colleges and schools are shut down world-wide. However, thanks to internet technologies, academic institutions are still able to deliver lectures to their students. Online classes helped students study at their own pace. if they find a difficulty in a lesson they can listen to it repeatedly which is not exactly possible in the case of traditional classroom teaching. Affordabilty is another advantage of online education. Online courses are comparitively inexpensive. Thirdly it also saves the cost and time spent on travelling.

However, its not like everyone has taken to online education like duck to water. Many students are struggling because they dont have laptops or smart devices. Adding to this, it is not suitable for students who need someone to mentor them and constantly monitor their progress. Online education fails to create an interactive and competent classrom learning. It is not easy for students to compare their performance with that of their peers. This can also affect the grades of some students. Unlike in a school where teaching is prescriptive, learning in colleges in colleges takes place through interaction which is highly defecit in this case. These classes also cause both physical and mental discomfort because of sitting in front of screens. Consequently, many parents and students still prefer regular courses to online courses.

In conclusion, online education allows students to study from anywhere and at any time. However, it is not suitable for very young students or those who lack self-discipline. In an online class it entirely depends on a students drive to study.
