IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - DIRECT ESSAY - ANIRUDH PUDICHETI

More and more people are moving from agricultural backgrounds to relocate to cities in order to look for work.

What will be the consequences of this? What solutions can you offer?

Why are some people leaving agriculture? Though it may depend on the individual, the agricultural background is decreasing and it may lead to negative outcomes. This essay will not only elucidate the consequences but also offer some solutions in order to prevent some people, who are moving away from farming backgrounds.

To commence with, many people from cultivation backgrounds are migrating to urban areas for better jobs and careers. The main reason behind switching his/her career from agriculture is poor prices for farm produce, government apathy, poor irrigation, use of chemical fertilizers, heavy rainfalls, soil erosion, which may lead to farmer's suicides. Though many people have their personal benefits after leaving their agricultural background, it may lead to massive problems with a shortage of food. Because of the lack of farmers, there will be more liability to introduce chemical fertilizers which may destroy organic farming.

On the flip side of the coin, if more people migrate to urban areas, it will produce tremendous stress and pressure in the job sector. For instance, many people from rural areas opt for engineering, which is the main criteria behind the huge competition and lack of jobs in this sector. This may lead to unemployment problems for graduates. Hence moving away from an agricultural background will not only lead to a shortage of food but also a shortage of employment.

To conclude and offer a solution, the Government should introduce farming as a practical subject to school students, so that students will be aware of agriculture and the importance of food. Currently, farmers receive very little prices for their crops in the market, which compels them to find jobs in urban areas instead. However, increased costs for their crops would encourage them to continue with farming. Reducing the cost of seeds and pesticides can also give a better solution for farmers to stay in his/her respective cultivation background.
