IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - AGREE/ DISAGREE - ARAVIND REDDY PALLREDDY

Some people think that books are losing importance as a source of information and entertainment. To what extent do you agree?

Although books are a mammoth source of information and entertainment, with technological advancement, it is losing its importance. I completely agree with this altercation and will pen down my ideas in the forthcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, thanks to the advent of the internet after which all the information is now available at the click of a button. For instance, if a person wants to know any particular topic, he/she can google it and it is available for free of cost. In other words, people are showing interest in online data where they can get manifold information, rather than searching it in books which are often very expensive and also, it takes a long time to search for information in a book.

In addition, there has been a dramatic growth in popularity and reach of visual media which provides different types of entertainment. For instance, nowadays, people switch on the television in their free time so that, they do not read a book to relax their mind. Furthermore, the internet also provides a bunch of entertainment materials and even one smartphone that can access the internet. Furthermore, there are many online games, which deviate the minds of people from reading books. Thus, the demand for books as a source of entertainment is decreasing considerably.

To encapsulate, I strongly agree that, nowadays, people do not encourage themselves to read books, because they find technology as a good stream of knowledge and there are other activities for pastime. Also, there are many mobile applications available for general knowledge and other subjects too.
