IELTS WRITING TASK 2 - ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES ESSAY - KUNAL MAHESHWARI

The development of tourism contributed to English becoming the most prominent language in the world. Some people think this will lead to English becoming the only language to be spoken globally. What are the advantages and disadvantages to having one language in the world?

The evolution of tourism led to English set-off the best suitable language globally. It is commonly believed by some that English is the exclusive language which is verbalized worldwide. This essay aims to discuss both the merits and demerits of having an individual language all across the globe.

One of the crystal-clear benefits of having single language for society is to develop better understanding in between different countries. Being monolingual helps to understand thoroughly the various cultures, religions and sacraments of different society without knowing their regional language. Individual language plays a vital role in uniting the vast diversity of planet earth, it almost eliminates the issue of supremacy impose by one religion on other and help to develop healthy society with nullifying wars, racisms and politics with neighbouring countries. Another reason could be advantageous in economic growth of world, with all people speaking same language across the world help to remove communication-barriers, which may lead to  increase in the world trade and also healthier economy globally.

On the other side of the coin,  a single language throughout the world can be demotivator for the people who work in the profession of translation, as the people of this sector abruptly experience job loss due to less demand of particular job in various countries. However, every culture has their own uniqueness which offers joy, pleasure and attraction to other culture which could be lost by a one language thought as individual language brings the issue of extinction of native language, cultural and religious activities from every continent. There will be no more regional language, which  is very hard to imagine a state wherein we hear same sound, and  the harmony of language is replaced by cacophony of voices.

In conclusion, it is desirable to have one language on earth so that everyone could move freely across the globe where they can settle or pursue their career without getting discriminated. I personally think to maintain the local language and culture, all the possible initiatives from different sources to be taken ,  so that this planet sustains the  diversity which inspires the  new generation.
